TIPS ON INTERVIEW MEDIC (MBBS) IIUM 2020

💖💖💖
Assalamualaikum guyss!

The most awaited entry! Awaited by me to post it and I think it is the first beneficial thing I am gonna share with you today. I am looking forward to post this since I also referred to my seniors blog for this interview. InsyaAllah, I will do the same thing as them, sharing their experience. You can refer as many blog, because every interview experience will be different, just to get overview of it, so you wont be too scared or too shocked.

I also made a video for it. Check it out! here's the link : https://youtu.be/7JJyYI6-1CI

Umm, just to tell you that it is my second interview, after IPG interview, InsyaAllah I will post about it soon. I did many research and preps for this interview but not to worry much because actually is a cross-sectional assessment that you need to pass, not so crucial but dont take it too easy. Because the important criteria is your CGPA. For IIUM, at least 3.50 and above, much more easier than other uni. But, idk because it cannot be compared relatively because every uni assessment are different.

Then, I will start.

9.50a.m.

Due to Covid- 19, this time around interview MBBS cannot be held f2f but just only via only platform. A day before, we had our Kulliyah (read: faculty) of Medicine (KOM) briefing by the Deputy Dean Academic KOM, Assoc. Prof Dr. Ahmad Marzuki, he told us about the campus, assessment, learning method, the block system, what to prepare for iv via microsoft teams- video call.
We also contacted by KOM, received the name list, the platform for the iv. So, as for me, what I know before my iv is the panel, Dr Farhan and Dr Nizamuddin- I saw from the email I've received, my group members and the platform- Zoom.

At 9.55a.m.

I tried to enter the meeting and the Dr Farhan allowed us to enter the meeting room- virtually ofcourse. Unfortunately, Dr Nizamuddin had some technical issues so we need to do a whatsapp video call.

And I video-called each of them and invited the Drs. and the interview start!

Dr : I want you to tell us why medicine?

Me: (no need to introduce or anything?!). Bismillah. Assalam. My name is .... I'm taking medicine because first of all, I like the concept of continuous learning, whether formal or informal, theoritically or practically. I like to learn, study because it can give me knowledge, experience and serenity. As a doctor, we should have this type of passion since the medical field is always updating from time to time. I am also a very flexible person so I can adapt to changes easily. My second point is I like to do research. Research is my passion and can answer all my curiosity. I always joined innovation competition because I know research can train me to be more patient person, teach me the correct procedure in handling specimen, apparatus and machine. Research also can nurture creative, critical and analytical thinking in myself. I believe that these are the qualities required in order to be a good doctor.

Dr : Do you want to study until you are 70 years old?

Me : Yes, yes 😂

We interviewed in group so, after that my friends answered the question.

Dr : Next question, everyone need to give me one common disease per person in Malaysia beside Covid- 19 and I want you to answer differently.

Me : Diabetes
Friend 1 : Obesity
Friend 2 : Mental illness, depression
Friend 3 L Heart diseases

Dr : So, dengue is not a common fever?

Hihi, he asked us to give one per person.

Dr : We will give you a situation, and you need to answer, give your opinion briefly- not exactly.  So Affisa, if you were a 2nd year medical student, your boyfriend asks you to get marry but your mother says no because she wanted me to focus on my studies, what would you answer to your boyfriend?

Me : InsyaAllah, I planned to get marry after I graduated, when I am 24 or 25 years old, but it depends on the qada' and the qadar of Allah s.w.t.

Dr : If you got married, it is not an easy journey, you may get pregnant?

Me : I will try my best to balanced my life between study and family. I will take pregnancy prevention such as pills.

Dr : If qada' and qadar of Allah says that you got pregnant?

Me : (Huhu). I will try my best to balanced my life. At the first point, I want to get marry after I graduated.

Hahaha then my friends got different situation such as,
- your mom had cancer but she doesnt want to be treated in hospital and want to see bomoh,
-you failed your 3rd year end of block exam, what would you do
-and if your friend has depression, what would you do, she asked you to keep it as a secret, would you tell her family, lecturer or doctors

More questions:
- about vaccination
- what is your suggestions on the abundance of HOs in Msia
- about depression in Msia
- who inspired you
- do you know about housemanship, your weakness and how you overcome it
- do you regret studying in CFS
- do you get stressed out studying in CFS
- your strength and weakness
- how you discover yourself to have an interest in medicine
- what specialist do you plan to take
- medicine-based or surgery- based
- traditional or hospital medicine
- tell me about yourself
- and many more

Important tips

  • Be yourself, be confident, It's ok, The panels are still human, Relax and calm
  • Get prepared and expect the unexpected. ( I dont expect marry question will be the main question. omg..)
  • Prepare your points for the common questions, so you will be able to handle them well
  • Observe you habit while talking such as playing with your hands, face, feets
  • Be the best version of yourself because basically they want to observe your passion, and attitude
  • Prepare for the ethic questions
  • Please talk, don't keep quiet but make sure your answer it logic and beyond our limit
  • Please follow your passion not anyone else for the sake to do ibadah for Allah s.w.t.

I think that's all for now. I hope my post can help my brothers and sisters that have the passion to further studies in medic like me. May Allah ease u and pray for me too. #stilllearning

Bye for now, Wassalam.
